Workshop Details

Discover the joys of botanical printing with Suffolk textile artist Marian May. Book now to avoid disappointment. Date: Wednesday 3rd September Times: 10am-3pm Cost: £130 Venue: Wiveton Village Hall, The Stree, Wiveton. NR25 7TH In this fabulous workshop, you will learn how to create gorgeous textiles by printing onto paper, silk and organic cotton using real leaves and flowers. You do not have to but if you have flowers and leaves you would like to print with you can bring something from your own garden or local woodland (a list of appropriate leaves will be sent out ahead of the workshop as not all leaves and flowers will print). Marian will also bring a stash of leaves and flowers for you to select from. During this workshop you will: *Be introduced to botanical and eco printing *Learn about the preparation of fabric to ensure lasting prints when using plant and natural dyes *Explore different leaf properties for printing, resisting or discharging *Print a silk scarf, a piece of watercolour paper and an organic cotton tea towel or piece of vintage linen *Be given instructions on how to finish off your fabrics at home and appropriate care to preserve natural colours. After lunch there will be time for a Q&A session when Marian can talk about mordanting and how you might create dye pots at home with everyday materials like onion skins, carrot tops, marigold flowers, nettles etc. All materials for this workshop will be provided: all you need to bring is an apron and plastic bags to take home your damp fabrics. Also, please do not wear anything new or best! This workshop is suitable for beginners.
